Welcome to Body Dynamix

Physical Therapy!

I’m glad you’ve chosen to get to know us better and find out what makes us unique!

My name is Michelle Matthews, and my fascination with human movement and the performing arts began at an early age.  I was exposed to a diverse background of dancing and teaching, with a focus on classical ballet.  After years of training with prestigious companies such as the Joffrey Ballet, Intercity Ballet Theatre, and North Carolina Ballet Theatre, I was thrilled to perform professionally as a freelance dancer throughout the northeast.  I was always intrigued by the body’s ability to withstand extreme stresses and overcome injury.  I was also introduced to the value of cross-training and the importance of proper body mechanics in physical fitness and conditioning.

In 2004, I became a certified Pilates instructor, teaching in various settings to promote enhanced core stability.  In 2007, after graduating from the University of Tennessee with my degree in exercise physiology, I received my license as a massage therapist.  I then went on to pursue my doctoral degree in physical therapy at East Tennessee State University, graduating in 2010.

After moving to Columbus in 2010, I have been working as a physical therapist specializing in the field of performing arts medicine, sports medicine and outpatient orthopedics.  I enjoy working with artists such as dancers, figure skaters, gymnasts, and musicians of all ages and skill levels to promote solid biomechanical movement for the prevention of injuries and return to peak performance.  As a physical therapist and massage therapist, my treatment approach includes a wide base of manual therapies and strength/ conditioning techniques.  I find that each injury is unique and offers us a key as to where the weak link of the biomechanical chain exists.  Being proactive with injury treatment and prevention can sometimes be the best possible medicine.

I believe in promoting a small, patient-centered environment that focuses on each person as an individual, not a diagnosis.  I am committed to providing evidence based treatments that will provide the best possible chance for a positive outcome.  I want to make sure you feel supported and educated every step of the way to become your own best advocate.  Promoting your independence both inside and outside of the clinic or dance studio is one of my priorities.

I look forward to the opportunity of working together as a team to optimize your performance X-factor and enjoyment of life!
